From here to there

From here to there:

Don't sink me, I'm just starting to swim again
Once I thought I could help everyone,
But they don't need my help
They can bear.

Just need to give them space, to find their legs
Just need to lend a helping hand
Not give them all I've got
Lest I be the one in trouble

I need to make sure of what I got
And lend out of the goodness of my heart
Lend from whatever I have
Not from someone else.

Let me give freely of my bounty
I keep the best for me
The rest I can give with impunity
The rewards are plenty

If I take from my neighbour
I have to repay
Not from my worst, but from my best
Far better, I say, to give my second-best

That way, I keep my best,
And you keep yours
Everyone keeps what they have
Only they know the cost

What looks like dirt to me
Might be valuable to my neighbour
Let me not take anything from him
Lest he get impoverished.

Everyone has been given, from the Lord
Who am I to say you are wrong?
If I do well, I will have much more
If I don't, then I go to hell.

Hell ain't bad, if ya ask me
It's warm and toasty all around
Been cold so bad, it sounds real good to me
Ya, I might just spend awhile.

The Lord is good, He's provided
A place for each and everyone
Some like the harps
But some need the heat.

Paying my dues

Paying my dues:

I'm still just payin' my dues
I work hard and toil awhile
I bring it back, and it's gone from me
It goes to those who'd had my back

I was down, and I was out
Didn't do anything for a while
Lived on someone else's bounty
Now I'm well and hale and hearty
And it's time I pay them back.

Gotta keep working
Gotta keep trying
I've got a mountain of debts to pay
It's still so amazing
How stupid I could have been
But that's okay,
That's just me

Gotta wake up and smell the dirt
See the flowers bloomin' in the garden
Feed the fish and hear the birds
Nibble on the plants and have a taste

Walk my land, up and down
Round and round
And round a while
Till it settles and it's subdued
Till it rejoices and shouts for joy

Then I hear it and I wonder
Did it mean so much?
When I am me and do my thing
My land just absolutely rejoices

What a relief, I've gotta say
To have everything my way
Do what I like, pushin' a while
Hear the rain, and walk the path

Round and round I go
Sometimes fast, sometimes slow
Always going forward
Never looking back.

No one stops me
They're all busy
I go my way
And they go theirs.

It is there, hidden,
A gem in the rock
A diamond in the rough
Some dirt in the ground.

Gotta consider and see
A dead rotting tree that stays submerged
For millions of years
Gets compressed into a piece of coal

If the pressure is right,
It gets crushed aright
And then we get a diamond.

Gotta polish the diamond
Gotta cut the facets
Gotta prepare the rock
To let the light through

Mount it on a tiara
Or wear it on a ring
String it on a bracelet
Or put it round the neck of a cat

There are so many things you can do
With a diamond or two
The possibilities are endless
Till it falls through

Hardest substance once known to man
It can cut right through glass
Polish it aright and it will shine
Mount it well, keep it fine

Girls love diamonds, and so do boys
Everyone loves diamonds, give them around
Doesn't have to be a real diamond
Just a stone is sufficient, if it shines

But how long does a stone last
That is the question
If you want the clip to last
Consider a real diamond.

Shining here, shining there
Shining everywhere
A diamond is a tiara's best friend.
Good on a ring, good on a bracelet

Good on a shoe or even a boot.
